What llms.txt is
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your site (yoursite.com/llms.txt) written for AI assistants rather than people. It's Markdown: a heading with your name, a one-paragraph summary in a quote, then lists of links to the pages that matter, each with a short note.
It's a newer convention and not every assistant reads it yet, but it costs nothing to add and gives the ones that do a short, accurate picture of your business instead of a guess.
How to add it to your site
Save the text as a file called llms.txt and upload it to the root of your site, next to robots.txt. On WordPress you can use a file manager plugin or your host's file manager; on Shopify, Webflow and most builders, a redirect or a page at /llms.txt that serves plain text works too.
Open yoursite.com/llms.txt in a browser afterwards and run the checker above to confirm it loads.

Do ChatGPT and Claude read llms.txt?
Support varies and is still growing. Some AI tools and agents fetch it when they visit a site, and it does no harm to the others. Treat it as a cheap extra next to the things that matter more: crawlable pages, clear content and structured data.
What should go in llms.txt?
Your name as a heading, a one-paragraph summary of what you offer and who for, then links to your key pages (pricing, products or services, docs, about, contact) with a sentence on each. Keep it short and keep it current.
Is llms.txt the same as robots.txt?
No. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may visit. llms.txt tells AI assistants what your site is about and where to look. You need robots.txt to allow AI crawlers for llms.txt to be any use.
