Meta description: Cut off164 characters · 1082 / 920 px
Google will cut this on desktop. Put the most important part in the first sentence.
Why length is measured in pixels
Google doesn't cut titles at a set number of characters. It cuts them when they run out of room, around 600 pixels on desktop, so a title full of wide letters like W and M gets cut sooner than one with narrow letters like i and l.
This preview measures your text in the font Google uses, so the warning appears where the real cut-off would be. Descriptions get about two lines, roughly 920 pixels on desktop.
Writing titles and descriptions that get clicked
Put the words people search for near the start of the title, then what makes you different, then your brand. Keep the description to one or two plain sentences that answer the searcher's question and give them a reason to click.
Google sometimes rewrites titles and descriptions it thinks don't match the page. Ones that describe the page accurately are the ones it keeps.
Questions, answered
How long should a title tag be?
Aim for 50-60 characters, or under about 600 pixels. Shorter is fine if it says what the page is; longer will usually be cut off with an ellipsis.
How long should a meta description be?
Aim for 120-160 characters. Google shows about two lines on desktop and a little more on mobile, and may pick its own snippet if yours is missing or doesn't match the search.
Why does Google show a different title than mine?
Google rewrites titles that are too long, stuffed with keywords, or don't match the page's content. Write a clear title that matches the page's main heading and it's more likely to keep it.
